Coincidence or by design?

Now that I am living in the land of Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, it seems my attention has been drawn lately to Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac. I find myself watching "The Weather Channel" for the updates on how the storm is progressing. Because of the nature of our culture, we tend to put stock in the Weatherman and the software designed to predict the outcome of a storm. This isn't the point of why I wanted to write today, but just a little side note to keep in mind how much stock we put in computer programs and weather predictions. Trust in God, He is the one who has the control of everything at His fingertips.

The point I wanted to get at today has to do with this storm brewing out in the Gulf of Mexico. Do you remember around this date back in 2005? I do because my daughter was born that year around that time. It was really scary because New Orleans had dodged bullet after bullet with Hurricanes, avoiding direct hits. It was like the boy who cried wolf. They'd heard the forecasters say they were gonna get hit before, yet they got missed. Well this time, the forecasters were right...and New Orleans didn't flinch. Most people stayed...and ended up riding out or being killed in one of the worst Hurricanes to hit U.S. soil. Remember me saying that we need to put our stock and trust in God? Yep. You got it. Put the trust in God. He's got control.

With this established, are we surprised that yet again, on the anniversary of Katrina another Hurricane, Isaac is predicted to make landfall yet again around the city of New Orleans? Is this mere coincidence? Or perhaps is this by design? It is 7 years past the date of Katrina. Another hurricane is poised to take out the city of New Orleans. I have never been there, but it is a sight to see from what I have heard. Trash everywhere, chaotic and debauchery everywhere, full of culture. From Mardi Gras to VooDoo, New Orleans has it all. Does it remind you of another place? Think Biblical. Book of Genesis...Chapter 19...Sodom and Gomorrah. Sodom and Gomorrah was wiped off the map by God for being ungodly and evil. What I am saying may strike a chord with some...it may make you mad or upset. For that I apologize, however, it must be said. We really need to take into consideration the difficulties we are facing with natural disasters, economic issues, terrorist attacks and so on.

Has it ever occurred to you that God could be trying to wake this Nation up? This nation was founded upon Christian beliefs. They were looking for freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. They were looking to break free of the Church of England, yet retain and maintain a relationship with Christ. This nation when it first began was dedicated to God, therefore, when we start making decisions that go contrary to what God has dictated to us in His standards through His Word and the life of Christ, we are bound for judgment.

I do not think the hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, earthquakes, economic issues and so on are coincidence. I think it is a result of God lifting His protection from us. If God's countenance is not surrounding us, that means evil can reach us. It isn't that God is causing it, it is that because we are not coming to Him first and foremost in everything from our laws to how our government is ran to the activities we participate in. We have turned our eyes away from God. God is calling us to repentance. Will we answer the door as a nation or simply ignore the knock? There are those of us who are praying and trying to help people see it...but most people just don't want to see it...

God allowed the nation of Israel to be taken over and to be put into bondage...do you really think He won't do it again in order to bring people back to Himself? Join those of us who are attempting to turn back to God. Come with us to humble ourselves before God...to repent of this nation's lack of obedience, and attempt to turn this nation away from the sinful nature and turn it to the one thing that can save us. Jesus Christ. Only by turning to Him who gave Himself up for us can we be healed...by his wounds, we are healed, once, for all who turn to Him.
